THE FOUNDER & THE WORK

A lifelong student.

"This is not the story of a career. It is the story of a lifelong student."

The Thriving Life 101 did not begin with a business plan. It emerged from decades of quietly observing how people live, work, gather, learn and search for meaning — across many cultures and professions.

Why does this exist?

Because living well is not something we are taught once — it is something we spend a lifetime learning. This is a place to learn it slowly, and in good company.

Why now?

Because longer lives, faster technology and constant noise have made an old question feel new again, and more pressing: how, then, should we live?

Why should thoughtful people care?

Because ideas about health, wisdom, beauty and character become far more useful when they are gathered with care, weighed against real life, and shared honestly.

CHAPTER ONE

The Beginning

Every thriving life begins long before careers, titles and qualifications. Before any of that, there is something quieter and more lasting: curiosity. What follows are a few restored photographs from Cristina’s earliest years in Brazil — kept not for nostalgia, but for what they remember. Every life, after all, begins the same way.

The Beginning

Every life begins the same way — wide-eyed, wordless, entirely present. Before language, before ambition, before we know a single thing about the world, we are already studying it: the light, a face, the edge of a familiar room. This is where curiosity begins — not as an idea, but as our very first way of being alive.

The Beginning

There is a kind of composure that arrives early and asks for nothing. A child stands, unhurried, sure of little except that she is allowed to be exactly where she is. Long before we are taught the words for confidence or character, we are already practising them — in how we hold ourselves in a room, and in the quiet decision to remain ourselves.

The Beginning

We find our voice long before we know what to do with it. At first there is only the delight of being heard — of sound filling a room, of a moment that belongs entirely to us. Purpose arrives later, slowly, often by surprise. What matters at the beginning is simply the courage to speak, and the joy of discovering that we can.

The Beginning

We rarely become ourselves alone. We learn in rows and circles, holding a pose beside others learning the very same one, steadied by the nearness of friends. Difference stands easily among us at this age, before anyone teaches us to notice it. Much of what lasts is learned this way — quietly, together, in the ordinary company of people growing up side by side.

The Beginning

Before ambition, there is wonder. A table dressed with care, a cake that seems enormous, an entire afternoon arranged around delight. We do not yet measure ourselves against anything; we simply marvel. Perhaps a good life is, in part, the long effort to protect that early capacity for wonder — to keep meeting the world with the same open, unguarded attention.

The particulars fade, but the disposition remains. The same curiosity visible in these early years would go on to shape a life of travel and books, of culture and cooking, of craftsmanship, health and ideas. What follows is simply where that curiosity led.

THE FOUNDERCristina Lima
CRISTINA LIMA, FOUNDER

From Rio de Janeiro to a life of learning

Cristina Lima grew up in Rio de Janeiro, and her life has been shaped by movement ever since — by different cultures, languages, kitchens, cities and countless conversations. She has made her home in Rio de Janeiro, Switzerland, Costa Rica, New York, Chicago, Tokyo, San José del Cabo and Southern California. Her travels have carried her further still — through Greece, France, Portugal, Spain, Japan, Singapore, Argentina, the Maldives and many places besides — each one adding another perspective on beauty, craftsmanship, hospitality, health and what it means to live well.

Her path has been anything but linear. It has included culinary training, years spent in luxury hospitality and in service to others, and time with houses like Cartier and Omega — where she came to love craftsmanship, discretion, trust, and the quiet excellence of doing a thing properly. None of this was collected to impress. It simply taught her that care shows in the details, and that preparation is what makes ease and confidence possible.

Later, she chose to become a student again in the most deliberate way — completing Harvard Medical School’s Lifestyle & Wellness programme, while continuing a lifelong reading in philosophy, human behaviour, beauty, culture, technology and the many facets of living well. She does not present herself as a physician, scientist or guru, nor as someone with all the answers. She is, more simply, someone who has spent a lifetime collecting perspectives, learning to ask better questions, and connecting ideas across cultures, disciplines and lived experience.

Her strength has never been certainty. It is curiosity — the willingness to keep asking, keep reading, keep listening. And she has found that the best of that learning happens not on a stage, but across a table: in thoughtful conversation, in small gatherings, in the company of people who are genuinely interested in one another. The Thriving Life 101 grew from that conviction.

OUR PHILOSOPHY

Embracing Adversity and Adventure

Life is full of adversity and adventure. Neither exists to be feared. Both invite us to grow. Human flourishing comes not from avoiding difficulty, but from cultivating the health, wisdom, character and perspective to move through life with resilience, curiosity and grace.

Preparation creates freedom.
Curiosity dissolves fear.
Beauty enriches everyday life.
Character outlasts achievement.
Learning never ends.
Health supports everything else.
Technology should always serve humanity.
A meaningful life is intentionally designed.

"The Thriving Life 101 is not a method for living perfectly. It is an invitation to keep learning, growing and becoming throughout life."

OUR MISSION

To advance human flourishing by integrating evidence-informed lifestyle medicine, lifelong learning, timeless wisdom, beauty, culture and thoughtful engagement with emerging technologies.

OUR VISION

To become one of the world’s most trusted educational institutions dedicated to intentional living and human flourishing.

OUR VALUES

The principles we hold to

The institution should never become a source of misinformation, exaggerated promises, fear-based marketing, clickbait, pseudo-science or sensationalism. It exists to encourage critical thinking, intellectual humility and respectful dialogue.

01Integrity before popularity.
02Truth before certainty.
03Evidence before opinion.
04Curiosity before ego.
05Character before status.
06Kindness before judgement.
07Excellence without perfectionism.
08Lifelong learning.
09Respect for different cultures and perspectives.

A foundation built to endure

The Thriving Life 101 welcomes curious people of every age, culture and background who believe that learning never really ends. It is built to be a gathering as much as an institution — a place for good reading, honest conversation and the slow, shared work of living well. In time it will grow to include books, programmes, letters, talks and thoughtful new tools, added gently, only when they are ready.
